Get to know Eldara
The below information reflects the status of Eldara at the beginning of The Forgotten Dawn
A theorized History of the Four Courts and Eldara
Millennia ago, Eldara was said to be ruled by the primals—gods who walked the land, each possessing immense power and dominion over their own gifts. But with power came hunger, and with hunger came war. The primals turned upon one another in an endless struggle for dominance, their battles shaking the very foundation of the world. The final war, devastating and unrelenting, threatened to consume everything.
It was then that one among them sought to end the cycle of destruction. This primal, whose name is lost to time, made a desperate bargain with the Pool of Vitality—the life source of Eldara itself. In exchange for peace, the Pool reshaped the world, birthing the Four Courts to govern magic and the races that would inherit the land. From the remnants of the primals' influence, the Eternal Court was formed under Giaxia, the Court of Reflection under Hild, the Court of Whispers under Ollo, and the Court of Shadows under Vasenia.
Of course, this is only legend, a tale passed down through generations. No living soul witnessed the rise of the Courts, nor can anyone say for certain whether the primals truly walked Eldara as gods. Yet their legacy remains undeniable—their war ended, and in its wake, magic was gifted to the world. With it came opportunity: a path to power, nobility, and status for those deemed worthy.
As centuries passed, the city of Azmeer rose, its towering spires becoming the beating heart of Eldara. The primals vanished, leaving no trace but the Courts they had birthed. With the dawn of the Fae’s reign, the Courts—forever rivals—found themselves at an impasse. Under King Telemarius, an accord was struck. Each Court established a House within Azmeer, tethered to their dominions across the realm. Through these Houses, members could channel their magic, ensuring Azmeer remained the center of power.
Yet power is never freely given. To claim a place within a Court, one must first receive an invitation to the Courting—an elite and perilous trial held once a year. Invitations are rare, sent only to a chosen few across Eldara. Those who accept must face a series of grueling tests, where skill, wit, and endurance determine their fate.
It is a gamble—one that can raise a soul to greatness or cast them into ruin. Azmeer, with all its splendor, is a city built on secrets, where alliances shift like the tide and danger lurks in every shadow. The Courts may strive for unity, but beneath their oaths lies a simple truth: power is never without cost.
